4th edition of the International Asparagus Days 2021

Rimini, Italie Elevage, Maraichage, Arboriculture … Field missions

Organized by Christian Befve and Luciano Trentini, two of the biggest asparagus experts, the International Asparagus Days (IAD) are the main international event dedicated to the asparagus sector

In 2021 the IAD took place for the first time simultaneously with Macfrut, the fruit and vegetable international fair, at Rimini, Italy, having 4 objectives: promote production and commercialization, stimulate consumption and support the application of technology innovation.

The 2021 edition allowed fruitful exchanges. With the collaboration of Interco for the logistics, animation, and management during the 4th edition of IAD hosted at the Exhibition Center of Rimini with participants from France and abroad (Europe, the Americas, and the Africa) during the 07 September 2021 and the 09 September 2021. The participants also had the opportunity to attend 4 conferences, translated in French and in English, in order to discuss the sector’s main issues:

  • New techniques to anticipate and respond to climate change (Christian BEFVE, Consultant Befve & Co)
  • The varietal panorama in the world and the creation of experimental fields (Julien ROCHERIEUX, Consultant AGROSOME)
  • What techniques to use in order to face the scarcity and the increasing cost of labor (Didier DUPRAT, Consultant specialist in asparagus)
  • Relationship between asparagus production and marketers at the European level (Luciano TRENTINI, Asparagus and fruit & vegetable consultant)

In addition, there were full-scale demonstrations of machinery all along the 55,000 m² of the exhibition center.

 

The third day of the IAD was dedicated to the technical visits to asparagus production and processing sites:

  • COVIRO Nursery: produce and trade certified plants. The production concerns mainly strawberry plants and asparagus claws.
  • Zanellati Davide’s farm: uses a soil heating system powered by electricity from the public grid to anticipate the harvest. The varieties used are Magnus, Verdus, Vitalim and Vittorio.
  • Farm Visentini Mario: grows green asparagus on an area of about 25 hectares. The varieties used are Hy Eros and Hy Giove, selected precisely for the soils and lands of Emilia Romagna.
