10 Georgian trainees in France as part of the “Wooding: west Georgian French woodwork training” project from April 4 to 8, 2022
Context: the Wooding project is a cooperation project with western Georgia to develop the carpentry and cabinetmaking sector through vocational training. Coordinated by the Danish refugee council of Georgia and the Caucasus region and by Interco Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the project started in September 2022 and runs until September 2022, financed by German cooperation.
Based on the observation that vocational training in the woodworking trades is underdeveloped and unstructured in Georgia, the aim of this project is to initiate the training of future trainers thanks to the expertise of 4 carpentry and cabinetmaking teachers from the multi-purpose high schools Nelson Mandela in Poitiers and Pays d’Aunis in Surgères, both members of the Campus des métiers et des qualifications forêt bois de Nouvelle-Aquitaine network.
Mission program and objectives: 10 Georgian trainees selected by DRC took part in a 4-day training course in cabinet-making and joinery, and visited a wood coworking structure in Bordeaux. The course was structured in three parts: 2 days in the workshops of the Lycée Nelson Mandela and 2 days at the Lycée du Pays d’Aunis in Surgères. The course ended with a visit to the “La Planche” wood coworking workshop in Bordeaux. 5 trainees will be selected by the lycée instructors to return for a 10-day course in May 2022.
Next step: 5 trainees will come and do a 10-day course in the Nelson Mandela and Pays d’Aunis workshops in May 2022.
